One of my frequently asked questions is how did Borrow My Vintage come to be? In 2013, I was in my second year of photographing weddings with Macy Marie Photography. An opportunity for a studio space in downtown Iowa City kind of fell in my lap and I was eager to have a space to call my own for MMP. I soon started decorating the space with knick-knacks and photography props and started holding my wedding consultations there. It soon became apparent that the brides that walked into my studio, had similar taste to myself and asked over and over where I got something or if they could buy it off of me… that’s when I started replying to these requests with, “you can rent it from me.”
I started with a handful of mason jars and from there my inventory continued to grow.
Fast forward a year, I had two successful businesses within the wedding industry, and in April 2014, I was photographing a wedding at Celebration Farm when I met a groomsman named Ryan… well the rest is history.
I wasn’t sure how Ryan would fit into my wedding businesses or if he would even want to be a part of what I was doing on the weekends. But we soon learned that he was an important part of growing Borrow My Vintage. Ryan is the builder, fixer and Queen Elizabeth driver – all things that are VERY important to the functioning of BMV. He has learned to love thrifting + picking with me, driving hours to go get a not so new couch, carrying vintage furniture by himself, and working in his workshop building new items for BMV. Together, we make a pretty good team!
Borrow My Vintage’s inventory has continued to grow these last few years and taking on styling clients has been one of my favorite additions to the rental business. Are you a BMV Bride? We would love to chat with you and hear your own vision for your wedding day and see how BMV can make that happen!
